Welcome to Catherine Harpham Therapeutic Counselling

Neuro-affirming counselling, helping to support authentic well-being through understanding, respect and connection

What does this mean?

My Approach to counselling

Everyone experiences the world differently - and that's something to be celebrated. My counselling practice is founded on person-centred and neuro-affirming values, creating space for you to explore, reflect and grow as your authentic self.

MY CORE VALUES

Empathy - I strive to align myself with what works best for you, in feeling heard and valued.

Respect - Your sensory, emotional and lived experiences matter to me

Authenticity - Space to unmask safely and feel seen, however I understand that this is not always possible

Autonomy - You lead the direction and pace of therapy - we can always agree a structure if this works best for you

Joy - Passions and Interests are celebrated as sources of strength and positivity. I recognise this may not be the case for everyone

How I work

My focus is on holding space for you, so you may find your own answers and increase self-awareness. I do not fix or solve your problems. By going on this journey, you may find that you develop the tools you need for more self acceptance and personal growth.

  • My work is based on Carl Roger's person-centred approach.
  • I am informed by my research and inspired by lived experience. Questions are always welcome
  • I value your lived experience as the foundation for your journey. Your needs and preferences shape our work as much as possible
  • Your communication, sensory and emotional experiences are important for me to work to understand.
  • I am committed to ongoing learning and reflection and do not consider myself a specialist nor an expert.

About the Sessions

What to expect

  • We will start by meeting for an initial chat, either online, by phone or face to face
  • During this, I will be asking a few questions to get to know you a little and what you're looking to get out of counselling. Please feel free to ask me questions too.
  • If we feel we can work together, we can talk about what will happen next, with regards to booking sessions and completing paperwork.
  • Feeling comfortable to share your joys, passions or areas of interest are important to me. Using these in our work together may help.
  • If you are interested in finding out more about what I feel are good practice standards, please head to my blog, where you will find further information and links to some articles and books, which I have found helpful.

Sessions

  • Sessions usually last 50 minutes, however if a shorter or longer session would work best for you, we can arrange this.
  • You can have as many or as few sessions as you feel fit.
  • We will review our work together every 6 - 8 weeks, to ensure that the sessions are working for you.
  • Requests for session reminders, extra processing time, or meeting summaries are always welcomed.
  • I also offer walk and talk therapy. Please ask for further details.
